Anti-blocking system of brakes (ABS)

Action principle

The ABS system increases active safety of the car, preventing blocking of wheels when braking. After all blocking of wheels is exclusively dangerous, as forward wheels become uncontrollable, and going yuzy back wheels can lead to drift of the car and emission on other party of movement.

The ABS system allows in any specific conditions (at movement on a straight line, on turn, on the asphalted ice-covered or sea road, etc.) to reduce a brake way to a minimum. In principle at each braking of ABS should solve two problems, providing trayektorny stability, reliable controllability and maneuverability of the car at movement on the roads different in type of a covering (asphalted, concrete) and being in a different condition (ice-covered, covered with dirt, snow, water).

Features of driving with ABS


The system automatically joins only on reaching speed about 10 km/h. At its falling below 6 km/h of ABS it is disconnected, so theoretically at the most last stage of braking of a wheel can be blocked, however in practice it any more has no basic value.

Advantages of ABS are most accurately shown in situations when you should put the maximum effort to a brake pedal. As forward wheels of the car remain operated, you can quietly go round an obstacle.

ABS realizes regulation process for fractions of a second. The pedal pulsation under a foot means that braking occurs under ABS control, otherwise, that the driver goes in a boundary mode. Besides, the crackling caused by process of work of ABS, reminds the driver of need of reduction of speed in compliance with the actual traffic conditions which have changed because of reduction (for example, in connection with ice) factor of a friction (or couplings) between tires and the road.

On roads with a loose coating (for example, rubble or snow) over the basis with good coupling properties the brake way can appear longer, than when blocking wheels. Important information for your safety


ABS does not cancel action of laws of physics. The system cannot prevent a consequence of the braking executed at an insufficient distance to ahead going car, passing of turns with is inadmissible in the high speed or in the presence of danger of hydroplaning. These consequences still remain on conscience of the driver. Existence of ABS providing the increased potential of safety, should not provoke you to unduly risky manner of driving.

Movement on diverse tires, for example, after installation of a spare wheel (in a combination to three other wheels on which tires with winter drawing of a protector are mounted) can limit functionality of ABS. Therefore it is necessary to establish the removed wheel as soon as possible back.

Anti-blocking system of brakes (ABS) / Monitoring system behind braking on turns (SVS)


The SVS system is an improved version of ABS. In the conditions of braking on turns at high cross-section acceleration, and also when braking during evolution from a row in a row the system allows to improve stability of movement and controllability.

In case of malfunction

If the lamp lights up together with control lamps of ABS and ASC+T/DSC systems *, it testifies to failure of all complex of adjusting systems ABS, SVS and ASC+T/DSC.
